Mindful Parenting: Collaborative Play

Children learn so much by play. They learn tolerance and respect, cooperation, communication skills, confidence, and much more. See a quick clip of collaborative play from one of my kids' favorite places: the Minnesota Children's Museum.

My kids love that area of the museum too! It's amazing to see how the play changes each time they go.

There are a lot of ways that you can encourage collaborative play with your kids. Start by just taking them to a park or other place where families often congregate. Resist the urge to step in and direct play (unless there are major conflicts). Let kids sort things out on their own - they often will. They'll learn powerful lessons, and you'll have fun watching them.

Disclosure: I'm part of the MCM's Smart Play Ambassadors program and have received information from them to share.
