Other than one casual friend of mine from grade school, I haven't had much direct experience with preemies. Then I got to read Preemie: Lessons in Love, Life, and Motherhood by Kasey Mathews and got a very close look at one family's story. This book was a powerful look at what it's like to have a baby who isn't even two pounds at birth. Her honest account, with all of the emotions, struggles, and successes they went through, is worth reading for anyone. Those with a pre-term child will find it inspirational, while those who haven't will be able to reflect on their own love for their children.
This
is one of those books that is not an easy read. It can be a
fairly quick read, but it is emotionally gripping and challenging, even
if you've never experienced the struggles she's had before. She writes
in such a way as to pull everyone in, whether or not they've had to deal
with premature birth.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book to facilitate my review.
