Parenting Pointers: Make Hair Washing Fun

As a mother, I think you are well aware about how much a battle washing your child's hair can be. There are many reasons why children hate baths. Aside from the fact that they are scared of being in the water, they also do not like being wet. Plus, they are also afraid of getting some shampoo in their eyes. We all know how painful that can be. It's time that you stop struggling with washing your child's hair and start making him enjoy the hair washing process. Here are some ways to do that:
  • Bubble it up! I don't know what it is with bubbles that attracts children. Maybe it's really amazing to see a sud go up in the air. Regardless of what it is, it is best that you take advantage of the effect that bubbles have on children-- draw them a bubble bath! When you put them on a bubble bath, they will enjoy playing with the bubbles that they will not be able to think of any worries or fear. This will keep them occupied for some time. However, you must be cautious in choosing a brand since there are some brands which may cause skin irritations to children, most especially if they have sensitive skin.
  • Add a splash of color. One of the best tricks that you can try is to add some drops of food color in your child's bath. You will see how his face will light up once he sees the water change color. In order to make the child anticipate and enjoy their hair washing session, it wold be best that you make use of different colors for the bath and let them do the choosing. Not only will you be able to wash your child's hair hassle free, you can also teach him a thing or two about colors.
  • Add toys. These days, there are lots of bath toys that you can choose from. Add these to their bath and you and your child will certainly have some fun washing their hair. The most popular bath toys that we have today is rubber duckies, boats and many more.
  • Make use of a shower head. The most hassle-free way to wash your child's hair is to lean their head back then bring the showerhead near it. When you make use of a showerhead, you do not have to refill each and every time. Plus, you are rest assured that the temperature of the water will be consistent.
  • It is best that you wash your child's hair while he is on the bath. While you are at it, there is nothing wrong in making the activity fun and exciting, right? Allow your child to pour water on his head. In fact, it will be great if you let him do the rubbing too. When you give your child some sense of control over the process, the tension of hair washing will be less and he will learn to let loose.
