Natural Health: Diet and Sleep

What you eat can contribute to sleep problems or help you get to sleep faster. For example, the combination of protein, fat, and carbohydrates in warm milk sweetened with honey can be a very calming drink at the end of the day. The magnesium, potassium, and carbohydrates in a banana also help relax muscles and promote deep sleep.

Eating a big meal too late at night makes your digestive system work overtime - which contributes to less restful sleep. So does alcohol late at night - it affects sleep cycles. However, a healthy snack with carbs about an hour and a half before bed can help you hit the sweet spot of sleep.
