These are some of the books and movies I've been watching this summer. I definitely recommend checking to see if your local library has them (mine had most, and I could use interlibrary loan to get others from neighboring counties).
Books:
Food Matters - takes an overall approach to better eating, with some look at the ecological impact of a typical diet
The Omnivore's Dilemma - traces the history of four types of meals, from completely processed to completely self-gathered/hunted
Food Inc (book that goes with the DVD) - a book that goes along with a very "crunchy" (for lack of a better term) movie that takes a hard look at a lot of industrial food practices
The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains - a commentary on the information age and how it changes the way we think
Distracted - similar to The Shallows, except it has a more negative than neutral stance
DVDs:
Fresh - an earlier movie that takes a look at industrial food practices
Food Inc - the DVD that goes with the book above
